Key things

  • Photoshop AI brings more control with precise tools to remove distractions like cables and wires.
  • Premiere Pro now includes Generative Extend and Generate Erase tools to help edit footage, both video and audio.
  • Adobe Express introduces Dynamic Reflow Text and a one-click branding application to increase productivity and customize designs.

Adobe Max 2024 revealed a number of exciting updates that introduced powerful new artificial intelligence tools to the Adobe suite. Let’s dive into what these tools are and why I’m so excited about them.

Photoshop AI offers more control

Photoshop’s latest AI features bring more precise removal tools, allowing you to brush an area for Photoshop to identify distractions and smoothly remove them. It works great for removing cables and wires that distract from the beautiful sky.

Photoshop Beta’s Generative Workspace lets generated images have a new home. Previously, when generating images, you had to manually click to open them and save each one as a file or canvas – but the Generative Workspace allows you to track all generated images in the Adobe suite.

Adobe Photoshop Generative Workspace

You can find the generative workspace under Features > Variations in Photoshop Beta. This tool allows you to add different variants to your library and apply global modifications to them, including adding variables to generate the prompt.

Premiere Pro gets generative artificial intelligence

Premiere Pro’s Generative Extend lets you generate additional footage from your existing timeline sections. This means you can fix shaky ending shots, add a few seconds to fit your timeline, or just add B-roll to your video. And it works for both video and audio.

Although Premiere Pro’s new generative tool comes with some caveats so far, I hope these will be ironed out in future updates.

Generate Erase has also been added to Premiere Pro. It works similar to Photoshop’s Generative Fill, but for video. This incredible tool will reduce the time and patience required to remove objects from your moving footage.

Mask Tracing is the best AI feature to be added to Premiere Pro. It’s like using Photoshop’s object selection, but in video. It works incredibly well, even tracking objects that move against a similarly toned or colored background. Creates a shape mask that moves as the object moves across the video. It even masks the hair quite well – impressive.

Adobe Firefly video model

This upcoming tool takes the power of everything seen in Adobe Firefly AI capabilities and applies them to generative video.

Adobe has announced the future of video generation with Adobe Firefly Video, which it expects to become the first publicly and commercially secure video generation tool. I expect this to be available within Premiere Pro and who knows how it will change your future workflow? You will be able to create a video using a text prompt or an existing image.

Adobe Express boosts productivity with artificial intelligence

Adobe Express Video Tools

Adobe Express has introduced Dynamic Reflow Text, which allows you to easily resize Express artboards – using the latest generative extension resizing tool – and the text will dynamically flow to fit the space you’ve created. While it may not be perfect, it will save a lot of time reformatting to the new space initially.

In Express, you can now remove the video background, allowing you to apply the same adjustments to your content whether you’re using a photo or video with a cropped subject.

Now you can also animate the entire artboard in one click with Animate everything. The tool automatically applies animated effects to everything in your Express project. They can be customized to your liking, but it uses intelligence to apply animations to specific types of elements.

1-Click Brand allows you to apply your brand assets—stored in the Adobe Express Brand Library—to any design. it’s great for creating pre-made designs and color schemes and applying your branding to them without having to spend hours re-coloring or changing fonts and other elements.

The new caption generator makes it easy to write social captions. Give a short prompt, choose a writing style or tone of voice, and you can even apply it to specific words or parts of the headline instead of the whole thing (if you just need a small change). You can then use the content scheduler to set up the post to automatically publish.

Adobe Lightroom announcement
Ruby Helyer/MakeUseOf

Lightroom Mobile already has a great set of tools and just got an AI, non-destructive Remove tool. It works similarly to the Remove tool in Photoshop, but is currently only available in Lightroom Mobile. Wipe the areas you want to remove, then select the ideal option from the four results.

The new adaptive presets use AI to scan your image and suggest presets that best suit the content of the image. While they can adjust them to your liking, they will adapt to what the AI thinks your image needs most. For example, the sky will be identified and any clouds can be removed as part of an adaptive preset.

New quick actions cut your editing time in half. They work similar to Adaptive Presets, but pop in and out depending on what is identified in the image. For example, if the person is smiling, you’ll see Quick Actions to whiten teeth, pop eyes, or realistically smooth skin.

As expected, Adobe unveiled an exciting array of AI features across the entire Adobe suite. You don’t need to be an Adobe Creative Cloud subscriber to access all of these tools—in fact, many of them are available in mobile apps like Express and Lightroom Mobile, and the Firefly video model may be available for public use like Firefly. Image model 4.

While there are even more features beyond what I’ve covered here, these are my favorites and I’m really excited about their potential.
