These 15 parts and accessories are ideal for a comfortable PC setup
When it comes to creating a computer setup, it’s not enough to just have a powerful computer—it has to be comfortable, stylish, and reflect who you are. Whether you’re working, playing or relaxing, you can turn your desk into a personal comfort zone.
1 Get the basics
It’s tempting to focus on style when setting up your PC, but comfort should always come first. Start by investing in essentials that will enhance your everyday experience, such as a supportive chair, desk, keyboard and mouse. Even the most powerful computer won’t feel comfortable if you can’t sit comfortably without straining your back or arms.
A comfortable, well-aligned chair and desk should therefore be your top priority. Look for a chair with a padded seat and strong back support – like this adjustable office chair that has an armrest, an adjustable headrest and a footrest.
Just like your chair, your desk should be at the optimal height for comfort. Take the time to measure the ideal height for your sitting position – a desk height of around 28 to 30 inches usually works well, although a height-adjustable desk offers more flexibility.
Also, make sure your desk has enough space to comfortably fit your monitor, keyboard, and other accessories; the deep desk provides space to comfortably rest your hands while using the keyboard and mouse. Don’t overlook the legroom either. Tables with shelves underneath may seem practical, but they can restrict leg movement. I made this mistake once and got a table with a shelf underneath and every time I extended my legs they hit the shelf.
Consider options like the Zelimon Electric Standing Desk, which provides adjustable height, a large surface area, and legroom to help create an ergonomic desk setup so you don’t strain your body while using the computer.
Keyboard and mouse
Next, let’s talk about the keyboard. Due to personal preference, I don’t believe there is a one-size-fits-all solution for choosing a mechanical keyboard. For example, I like mechanical keyboards for their sound and long key travel, such as the RK ROYAL KLUDGE R65, while my partner prefers laptop-style keyboards that have minimal key travel and are soft to the touch.
So it’s up to personal preference. But if you get a mechanical keyboard, don’t forget to get a wrist rest, as its higher height can often strain your wrists. I like this Cloud Wrist Rest for its highs and lows. It grips my hands a bit with its highs and lows and looks cool with the settings.
For a mouse, choose one that fits comfortably in the palm of your hand. Logitech offers a number of high-quality options, such as the Logitech MX Master 3S. This is a high-end mouse and the price reflects that, but for my money it’s simple and one of the best.
2 Adding style to your PC
I love clear cases, especially the white ones. It transforms your computer from a boring looking box into a dynamic part of your setup like this stunning Lian Li O11 ATX midtower case. With clear cases, you can be creative and experiment with different decorations. In this case, for example, you can add RGB lights and fans and set your preferred color tones to match the rest of the setup. In addition, it offers enough space to add other accessories such as charms, figurines, 3D stickers or even small plants.
If you like custom mechanical keyboards, consider swapping out the stock keys for higher quality PBT for a custom look. With as many key options as these beautiful Womier PBT keys, you can always find a style to complement your setup.
3 Organization is key
A crowded space is never cozy; even well-organized items on your desk can add visual clutter. Shelves are a great solution to keep order and style. I recommend these Wall-mounted floating shelves that can be installed above your desk for an aesthetic appeal. But if you have a lot to store, a vertical shelf can be a practical option to keep everything within reach without cluttering up your desk.
Cables hanging from your monitor and computer are a major source of clutter, making the setup feel messy. To keep cables out of sight, consider investing in a wooden cable management box. The cable organizer box is ideal for storing extension cords and cables; you can hang it under the table or place it on top. Self-adhesive Velcro organizers are also handy, allowing you to thread wires through adjustable loops and stick them discreetly behind your desk or along its legs.
4 Always prioritize comfort
If you spend long hours in front of your computer, comfort is key; otherwise they will tire quickly and you will want to relax elsewhere. Once you have the right table and chair, there are plenty of ways to create an even cozier environment, almost as comfortable as sitting on the sofa. For example, this soft chunky knit blanket is a great addition – not only to throw over a chair for extra back comfort, but also to wrap around when it’s cold.
You may also consider adding a faux fur mat under your feet. Not only does it look luxurious, but it also adds a touch of style to your device and creates a warm and inviting space.
5 Add some style elements to the settings
Once the basics are covered, it’s time to add some personality. A great way to start is to add a unique set of speakers to your desk, like the popular Divoom Ditoo. Its pixel display and retro-style buttons bring a charming touch that goes beyond the typical desktop speaker look, making your setup more customized and fun.
You can also consider adding a clock to your desk. It will help you stay focused because you won’t have to check your phone and get distracted by it. You could get something like this DreamSky digital alarm clock; I like his big numbers and rugged style.
Figurines are a fun way to add personality to your space. You can choose something meaningful, such as a figurine of someone inspirational or a custom figurine that resembles your pet or loved one. However, a personal attachment isn’t a must – you can choose something stylish and versatile like these blue and white astronaut statues on Amazon to add a unique touch to your setup and even place them in your computer case.
Additionally, a lamp and monitor light bar like this computer monitor lamp add warmth to your space while serving a functional purpose. They help reduce eye fatigue during long hours of use and create a pleasant atmosphere.
Finally, houseplants can bring a refreshing touch to your setting. With plenty of options available, you can choose according to your style and the level of care you can provide. If you’re new to plants, consider starting with hardy varieties like cacti, snakes, or spiders, or even zero-maintenance faux plants. Just be sure to check that any plants you bring are not toxic to any pets you have (or may become in the future).
