Pokémon Go Mega Evolution Guide and Tips
Pokémon Go has been in the market for quite several years now. During its release, it had created a huge uproar among mobile gamers and everyone wanted to try out this unique game. Even though we can’t say it has the same level of craze as of now, it still has a huge player base who log on to play the game every day. One of the features of Pokémon Go is Mega Evolution. It increases the combat power for a certain period. So in this Pokémon Go guide, we are going to talk about everything you need to know about Mega Evolution.
Mega Evolution in Pokémon Go: An Overview
You can use Mega Evolution to make your Pokémon more powerful and also get access to certain bonuses. Mega Evolutions stay in effect in Pokémon Go for up to eight hours. During this time you’ll be able to get all the perks of a Mega Evolution while the XP of the Pokémon remains the same.
The bonuses you’ll get depend on the level of Mega Evolution your Pokémon will be at. The Pokémon type may also change temporarily for a Pokémon after it undergoes Mega Evolution.
Primal Reversion is also pretty similar to Mega Evolution. During this, your Pokémon will have improved performance in battles, change their appearance, and a change in their weather bonuses. You can make a Pokémon perform Mega Evolution or Primal Reversion at a time, not both at once. In this guide, we are only going to talk about Mega Evolution but you can apply the same knowledge for Primal Reversion too.
Mega Energy in Pokémon Go
You will need Mega Energy to evolve a Pokémon into their evolved form. Every Pokémon has its form of Mega Energy and they can’t be used on another Pokémon. You can earn Mega Energy by participating in Mega Raids. In these raids, you can battle against Mega Pokémon and if you successfully defeat them, you’ll receive the Mega Energy of that specific Pokémon. It doesn’t matter if you own the Pokémon or not, you’ll receive its Mega Energy regardless.
The amount of Mega Energy you’ll receive depends on how quickly you’ve finished the Mega Raid. You can spot Mega Raids by looking for tan and brown eggs with the Mega Energy symbol appearing in front of gyms. Other ways of Mega Energy include completing Field Research and Timed Research tasks.
You can also go for a walk with your Buddy Pokémon and earn Mega Energy in this way. This process will work only if you have already mega-evolved a Pokémon in the evolutionary line of your Buddy Pokémon in the past. After you’ve saved up enough Mega Energy for a Pokémon, you can head over to use the energy to Mega Evolve it.
How to perform a Mega Evolution in Pokémon Go
Before heading over to mega evolve a Pokémon, you should know that not all Pokémon have a mega evolved form. You can check if a Pokémon can be mega-evolved from not by looking for the “Can Mega Evolve” tag in the search field. This step-by-step process will guide you in looking for it.
- Step 1 – Tap on the Main Menu button which is present in Map View.
- Step 2 – Click on the Pokémon button, and then tap on the Magnifying Glass button at the top of the list.
- Step 3 – You will need to click on the Can Mega Evolve button which features a Mega Energy icon. After that, you’ll need to choose the Pokémon which you want to Mega Evolve.
You can Mega Evolve a Pokémon by clicking on the pink Mega Evolve tab. You can check how much Mega Energy you’ll need to evolve a Pokémon beneath the green Power Up tab. The mega-evolved version of your Pokémon will be there for eight hours.
You should use Mega Pokémon in Battle Raids, as they become more powerful, have more bonuses, and so on. They are especially more helpful in front of Legendary Pokémon. You can also Mega Evolve your Pokémon while waiting in the Raid Lobby. All you need to do is click on the Mega Energy button which is present on the left side of the lineup in your Battle Party.
Mega Level and Bonuses in Pokémon Go
The Mega Levels of your Pokémon depends on how many mega evolutions it has gone through and how frequently in Pokémon Go. There are a total of three Mega Levels namely Base Level, High Level, and Max Level.
The Mega Level of a certain Pokémon doesn’t signify the Mega Level of the species as a whole. You can have two Pokémon of the same species with different Mega Levels but you cannot mega evolve a Pokémon right after you’ve commenced its first mega evolution in Pokémon Go.
You need to wait through a rest period before you can mega evolve it again without using Mega Energy. Base Level Pokémon have a rest period of seven days and you can mega evolve it again before it gets over by using a reduced amount of Mega Energy. You can find all the important information that you need to know about your Pokémon such as its Mega Level, time left in its rest period, and so on. All you need to do is click on the Mega Energy icon present on the left side of your Pokémon.
The bonuses you receive for the mega evolution of a Pokémon depend on its Mega Level. Here’s a detailed table showing every information you need to know about all the three Mega Levels.
