I’ve tested the best Google Forms alternatives: Here are my favorites

Forms are necessary for data collection. While Google Forms is a popular option, it doesn’t always offer everything you need. If you’re looking for better collaboration features or more advanced options, it might be time to explore other tools. I tested some of the best Google Forms alternatives and found this here.

I have a love-hate relationship with Microsoft applications. As much as I like Word and To-Do, I find some applications – like Outlook – clunky. My love for Google apps is universal, so I was curious to see how Microsoft Forms stacks up against Google Forms. To my pleasant surprise, I quite liked it.

Microsoft Forms is the best app on this list for templates. You’ll find employee and customer satisfaction surveys, sick/vacation forms, feedback surveys and much more. You can also create invitations for birthdays, weddings, and other special events using Microsoft Forms.

Even when creating a form from scratch, I found the app very user-friendly. Another thing I liked was that you can get suggestions for questions that can be especially useful when creating a survey. The tool is easy to use, and with a few Microsoft Forms tips and tricks, you’ll be navigating it like a pro in no time.

Since you want the data you collect to be as accurate as possible, it’s also good to know how to prevent duplicate responses in Microsoft Forms.

SurveyMonkey has long been a popular data collection tool – I remember using it in school and college (and that was a while ago). Nostalgia aside, I revisited SurveyMonkey to see how it stacks up against today’s alternatives.

While Microsoft Forms remains my preferred choice, SurveyMonkey still offers a solid experience with some unique advantages. One interesting feature is the ability to generate a form using an AI prompt, potentially speeding up the survey creation process. I tested it by providing a website analytics challenge and the results were surprisingly good. The generated survey needed only minor adjustments before it was ready to run.

Create a survey with AI on SurveyMonkey

Of course, if you’d rather not use AI, SurveyMonkey also lets you create forms from scratch, with templates for customer satisfaction and pure promoter scores. However, Microsoft Forms offers a greater variety of templates. If you miss Google Surveys, SurveyMonkey is one of the many viable alternatives to Google Surveys.

Feathery has one of the best free plans when looking at Google Forms alternatives. You get up to 500 posts per month and can also integrate with Zapier, Notion, Stripe and several other apps. When I tested its AI feature, I liked how it prompted me to choose the number of pages for the form, although the 256 character limit was restrictive. The AI response was pretty basic as you can see below:

Despite this limitation, creating forms manually on Feathery was a good experience. It offers specialized templates such as SaaS onboarding, loan applications and waiting list forms. While building forms from scratch requires a little more technical knowledge, Feathery is ideal if you want to have more control over the look and structure of your forms. To add new text or elements, you’ll need to hover over an existing element and click the blue “+” button – an intuitive approach once you get used to it.

The free Forms.app plan lets you collect 100 monthly responses, save up to 10MB of file storage, and use up to five forms at once. Like SurveyMonkey, you can use AI to generate your form; when you select this option, several prompts appear along with a text box to add your own.

While Forms.app’s AI tool worked for the pre-designed prompts, it didn’t work when I tried to enter my own. So I would say that SurveyMonkey was much better in that regard. But despite that, Forms.app is a great choice if you want to manually create forms and surveys.

I found several templates on Forms.app, such as job applications, event registration forms, and feedback forms. Compared to SurveyMonkey and WPForms, Forms.app is a great choice if you want to use survey-specific templates.

Creating a survey in Forms.app

One thing I liked about Forms.app was that its templates had a bit more personality than many of the other Google Forms alternatives I’ve discussed so far. Because they felt more alive, I enjoyed using the app more. You can also create your own surveys and forms from scratch and choose whether you want a list or step view; its dropdowns are particularly useful.

I use WPForms on my portfolio and travel blog and I think it’s the best alternative to Google Forms if you have a WordPress site. I use WPForms if people want to reach me and for others to sign up for my blog newsletter; in both cases I didn’t need a huge amount of technical knowledge.

Contact form created with WPForms

In addition to contact forms and newsletter signups, you can use WPForms for thousands of other tasks. For example, you can create feature requests and complaint forms. Some, like service scorecards and market research, require a paid subscription – but if you plan to use them heavily, I think the upgrade is worth it.

WPForms is a must if you are setting up a WordPress site, especially when paired with other core WordPress extensions.

I still enjoy using Google Forms, but it’s also nice to know there are alternatives. You often get better customization, and some tools include AI features (although the quality varies). All of these apps have reasonable free plans, but you get even more out of them if you sign up for a paid plan.
