I use these stickers to add Apple’s MagSafe to Android phones
Key things
- Use MagSafe stickers on Android for wireless charging with MagSafe chargers and accessories.
- These stickers work with any phone that supports wireless charging.
- Ensure correct placement of sticker, thickness of case and charger for optimal operation.
Using MagSafe on Android may seem impossible because the technology is exclusive to Apple devices. However, I will share a solution that involves using stickers to get your Android devices working with MagSafe chargers and accessories right away.
What are MagSafe stickers?
MagSafe is basically a combination of a wireless charging coil and some magnets. iPhones come with these built-in magnets, but if you buy an Android device, you’ll only get half the pack, assuming your phone supports wireless charging.
So while your Android phone may be able to use MagSafe chargers to charge wirelessly, it certainly won’t fit into a slot like an iPhone. This is where the “MagSafe stickers” come in.
These stickers are made of small magnetic rings with glue on the back. All you have to do is line them up with your phone’s wireless charging coil and stick them to either the back of your phone or the case, and that’s it. The magnets on the sticker keep your phone stuck to the MagSafe charger you’re using, and wireless charging works as expected.
I use the PopSockets Adapter Ring for MagSafe which is around $7 on Amazon. You can find cheaper alternatives from other retailers, and some MagSafe chargers even bundle them as accessories. In theory, any such decals should work fine, but I’d recommend sticking to reputable sellers. The PopSockets ring has quite a bit of magnetic strength and doesn’t seem to affect the charging speed of my Pixel 7a.
The stickers work with almost any phone that supports wireless charging, including older iPhones that don’t support MagSafe. In case your phone doesn’t support wireless charging, you can use these stickers to use many MagSafe accessories such as phone holders for desks, cars and everything in between.
What phones do these stickers work with?
The good thing about using these stickers is that they will work with any phone that supports wireless charging. Plus, you can also stick them directly on the back of your phone if you don’t like putting on a case. Even if your phone doesn’t support wireless charging, these stickers will allow you to use hundreds of MagSafe compatible phone mounts on the market.
For example, if your car’s phone holder is a headache to get your phone to connect to (which it generally is), these stickers allow you to upgrade to a magnetic one, where you basically snap your phone into the holder.
You can also use a magnetic case, but unless you have an iPhone or a flagship Android, your case options are limited. These stickers, on the other hand, allow you to use any phone and basically any case with MagSafe-compatible chargers and stands without having to spend an exorbitant amount of money. MagSafe cases also cost more than these stickers.
However, there are certain cases to consider when using stickers. The stickers I purchased are not officially compatible with silicone cases, textured cases, or coated fingerprints. In my experience they should work on most cases as long as they are not too thick or made of fabric. The adhesive strip on the back of the stickers I got is strong enough to stick to the silicone case, so I wouldn’t worry too much about it.
Are MagSafe stickers safe to use?
These decals are completely safe to use, but since this is an aftermarket solution, there are a few things to keep in mind.
The placement of the stickers is the most important thing here. While you don’t have to get the alignment exactly right, it’s best to be as close as possible, as a misaligned sticker may not charge your device properly or cause overheating issues.
I placed mine slightly off-axis and my phone sometimes sits on the charger and fluctuates between charging and not charging states. Also, most of these stickers are not reusable, so if you end up sticking them in the wrong place, you’ll have to use a new one.
You also need to be careful about the charger you use. This isn’t a big deal as most MagSafe compatible chargers work fine, but I still recommend getting a charger that matches your phone’s wireless charging speed. In case you are confused, we have a list of the best MagSafe chargers for you to choose from.
With a few careful considerations, you can use these stickers to make any phone MagSafe compatible and enjoy all the benefits. Wireless charging is great, but it’s even better when the phone clicks into place instead of having to fumble to find the right spot.
