If you have a house like mine, then time is the biggest and hardest commodity to budget for. We could use all the help we can get. To help keep my family on track, we put one type of Alexa device in almost every room in our house.

This has been an absolute game changer for us, changing everything from how we communicate and manage our time to controlling our connected home and more. Here’s a look at the difference it made.

1 Better communication

One of the best ways Alexa has improved our household dynamics is in our ability to communicate with each other. Having an Echo Dot in both the kids’ rooms, as well as the living room and our bedroom, allowed us to make quick announcements or send reminders without having to shout across the house.

Need to tell someone to bring you a clothes basket while you fold? Easy peasy. Do you want your child to be able to tell you that the bathroom needs more toilet paper? Yeah, he can do that too.

Whether it’s calling everyone for dinner, reminding the kids it’s time to do their homework, or checking in with each other when we’re not home, our Alexa devices make it easy to communicate instantly in and out of the house. I can even count on Alexa to deliver preset reminders to the kids and my husband so they can stay on top of their tasks without needing constant verbal reminders from me.

2 Effective time management

Time management with a family of four has always been an absolute headache and is another area where Alexa shines. At any given moment there seem to be at least three or more activities that require our attention, but with Alexa I can easily set timers and alarms.

Alexa basically acts as a personal assistant for every member of the family, whether it’s waking you up at the right time, reminding you to do laundry, or telling you when to take your allergy medicine.

Seriously, having the Alexa Show right at our front door, complete with calendar and reminders, has saved us so much time and hassle. It’s basically like having a live interactive bulletin board—one that tracks all kinds of upcoming meeting and event information. This ensures seamless coordination.

3 Facilitating automation

Another thing Alexa has done that makes it easier to keep my family “on the go” is give me complete control over my home. Everything from setting thermostats to controlling lighting is available with just a voice command.

When it’s time for the kids to go to bed, I can dim their room lights and start playing music from my Alexa-linked Spotify accounts. Or if I want to start heating my home before I get there, I can do that too.

I may not technically save that much time, but being able to control my home with my voice or just logging into my phone makes things a lot easier. It’s less time spent on the mundane, small adjustments around the house and more time on what matters most – my family.

4 Personalized experiences

One of the things I appreciate most about our Alexa devices is how I can customize the experience for each member of the family. Our school-aged child benefits from a morning routine programmed to help him get up (in a good mood) and ready for school. It starts with soft music and lights coming on, a welcome message and a reminder of the day and time. I also pre-programmed homework reminders and timers so he wouldn’t spend too long on his games.

Meanwhile, my husband and I have our own reminders and Alexa routines for every part of our day. Things like dentist or doctor appointments are announced a day in advance and the day of, as well as when we each have an appointment or appointment. Personally, I like having a motivational quote to start the day, while my husband has a reminder to tell him when to sign off.

Changing these personalizations is also so easy. I can just reach for my phone and change routines as our lives change, or tell an Alexa device in any room of our house. Having every device connected means less hassle for me.

Looking back at all the things that having an Alexa device in every room helps, I’m amazed at how integrated these devices have become. From bedrooms to the living room, heck even the bathroom, these tools make everyday life easier and more efficient. Could I exist without them? Absolutely. Do they make my life easier and keep my family on track? 100%.
