Despite my initial skepticism, I found myself relying more and more on Meta AI on WhatsApp. It has changed my messaging experience and added a surprisingly useful element to my chats. Here’s how I use Meta AI on WhatsApp.

1 Searching for information

One of the main reasons I use Meta AI on WhatsApp is its ability to provide quick information when I need it. In my experience, whether I’m in the middle of a conversation or just need a quick answer, Meta AI has proven to be a reliable resource.

For example, if I’m talking to a friend about a movie and can’t remember the main actor’s name, I can simply ask Meta AI, “Who starred in The Shawshank Redemption?” and get an instant answer. This saves me the trouble of switching apps or searching for information myself.

Meta AI can also help with more complex queries. I used prompts like “Explain the concept of inflation in simple terms” or “What are the key differences between OLED and QLED displays?” and received brief and easy-to-understand explanations.

Another way I use Meta AI for quick insights is to ask for recommendations. Challenges such as “Suggest a good Italian restaurant near me” or “What must-see attractions in Paris?” yielded useful results, complete with links to relevant websites.

Of course, as with any generative AI tool, it is important to verify the information provided by Meta AI. While this is generally accurate, there have been cases where the information was out of date or not entirely correct. That said, for most casual conversations and quick queries, Meta AI has proven to be a valuable resource.

2 Help with answers

Another way Meta AI has been useful on WhatsApp is helping me write replies when I’m stuck. I use it if the message needs to strike the right tone or is long and requires careful formatting.

I found Meta AI’s ability to help write polite and well-structured responses for professional communication to be impressive. By simply providing a prompt like “Help me write a professional email to my project advisor requesting a meeting to discuss my project proposal,” Meta AI will generate a clear, concise message that I can fine-tune before sending.

Similarly, when I need to respond to a long message or address multiple points, Meta AI helps me format the response in a clear and organized way. I can break up my message into bullet points or numbered lists, making it easier for the recipient to follow my train of thought.

3 AI generating images and animations to make chats fun

While Meta AI’s image generation and animation features may seem gimmicky at first, they bring more creativity and a touch of whimsy to WhatsApp conversations.

I use Meta AI image generation to create custom reaction images. When a friend shares a funny story or relatable experience, I can prompt Meta AI with something like “Generate a picture of a laughing cartoon character” to create something unique that perfectly captures my reaction.

I’ve also been experimenting with using Meta AI’s image generation for creative writing. By asking him to create images based on abstract concepts or surrealist descriptions, I got some thought-provoking visuals that inspired interesting conversations with friends.

The animation generation feature was nice to add a dynamic element to chats. I use prompts like “Create a short animation of a character jumping through portals” to share fun visuals that keep conversations lively and engaging.

4 Summarize long text and voice messages

Meta AI is good for summarizing long text and voice messages. In today’s busy world, it is not always possible to read long messages or listen to long voice memos.

For long text messages, I can simply prompt Meta AI to “Summarize the main points of this message” and receive a summary of the chat. This feature has been a lifesaver when I’m short on time or need to quickly get the gist of a detailed report.

Similarly, Meta AI can transcribe and summarize voice memos, making it easier to understand the content without having to listen to the entire recording. When I ask Meta AI to “Provide a summary of this voice memo”, I can get a brief summary of the main points discussed.

I find this feature especially useful in group chats where multiple people may be sending long messages or voice memos. I can quickly catch up on important discussions without being overwhelmed with information.

However, when we tested it with multiple users, Meta AI was not always able to summarize voice notes.

I experimented with Meta AI in WhatsApp group chats. While I’m still wary that it can be hit or miss depending on group dynamics, I’ve discovered some practical applications that make group conversations more engaging.

One way I’ve used Meta AI in groups is in event planning. Prompting the Meta AI with something like “Help us plan a weekend getaway for four people” will generate suggestions of destinations, activities and itineraries after you give it some preferences. This sparked lively discussions and helped me and my friends make more effective decisions.

Meta AI was also surprisingly useful for generating ideas and facilitating brainstorming sessions. When our group was stuck trying to come up with a theme for a friend’s birthday party, I challenged the Meta AI to “Suggest creative themes for a 25th birthday party.” The ideas it generates can lead to an exciting discussion and ultimately an unforgettable event.

When a conversation gets long or fails, I can prompt the Meta AI, “Please summarize the main points and action items from this conversation.”

This helps keep everyone on the same page and ensures that important information doesn’t get lost in the chaos. While Meta AI can be fun, I use it sparingly so as not to disrupt the natural flow of the conversation.

6 Text translation

Meta AI translation can be useful for communicating with friends and colleagues who speak different languages. I found it to provide decent translations for simple conversations. However, it’s important to note that Meta AI’s translations aren’t always perfect, especially for more complex or nuanced messages.

There were instances where the translations were slightly off or missing the intended meaning. Despite these limitations, I still use Meta AI for quick translations. While Meta AI is a useful feature in WhatsApp, you can also use Meta AI on Facebook and Instagram.

While Meta AI is a useful tool, you should always be aware of the risks of using generative AI. There are also certain pieces of information you should not share with AI chatbots. But for fun and low-stakes use, tools like Meta AI can be incredibly fun to use.
