eFootball Player Playing Style - Classic No. 10

KONAMI’s eFootball 2024 has seen some new features such as Co-op Mode and My League over the updates, but one of the biggest positives we got to have is the view of tactics and the new training system, which has come across as a breath of fresh air for longtime fans of the game, which allows them to field a XI with tactical plans and player playstyle setups, be it Forwards, Midfielders, or Defenders in eFootball 2024.

While players follow this, few often forget that a player’s playstyle in eFootball still plays an important role in making the team adapt to the gameplan, and thus improve the flow of play. So, in this article, we will briefly explain the various eFootball player playstyle of all the Midfielder available with examples and roles they play.

Even though the season update is running in eFootball 2024 carried over from the 2022 season, there hasn’t been any change in the playing style and tactics. However, we do see a few changes from the PES 2021 version of the game as a couple of playing styles are either renamed or removed.

Players often try to play a perfect game plan to suit their way of play, and for those to get a flexible day with their tactics and pick the best formations wherever needed, players adapt to their play and generally look better. In detail, we will mention all the types of player playing styles in-game, along with the discussion of the Manager style of play in eFootball.

There are a total of 22 playstyles from the Striker to the Goalkeeper in eFootball, out of which the Midfielder playstyles are listed as follows:

Classic No. 10

  • Positions Activated: SS/AMF/CMF
  • Key Attributes: Low Pass, Lofted Pass, Ball Control
  • Player Examples: Luis Alberto, Joao Mario

Overview

Sadly a few Classic No. 10s are available in football and reflected in the game too. A very limited yet technical role to fulfil, Classic No. 10 fills the hole behind the forward line and above the midfield line. They provide fewer runs to the box and often utilize their passing abilities to move the ball forward.

Classic No. 10

Luis Alberto, Philipe Coutinho and Ronaldinho in the Legends section are a few names equipped with this player playstyle in eFootball. They aren’t exactly known for bombing forward, but mostly a fixed role to create magic. A more particular role is unlike other playmakers, they do not drift wide, and play in more central areas.

Formation Discussion

They are best suited to an AMF role, as they aren’t known for running into space. Use them as creators in a central AMF role in formations like 4-2-1-3, 4-3-1-2, etc.

Creative Playmaker

  • Positions Activated: SS/RWF/LWF/RMF/LMF/AMF
  • Key Attributes: Low Pass, Lofted Pass, Ball Control
  • Player Examples: Lionel Messi, Kevin De Bruyne

Overview

The Creative Playmaker is the most versatile player playstyle in eFootball, which is activated in most of the positions in the attack and midfield. Many creative players in the game who are often credited as chance creators are equipped with this playstyle.

Creative Playmaker

Often dropping deep to pick up the ball, they will try to find an open space in the opponent’s defensive line to pick a pass to the forwards or to those who are making a forward run.

Formation Discussion

Just like Classic No. 10, they work best in a central AMF role, except having them play them at the right/left AMF. At wings, they aren’t suggested as they do not provide the width and hinder the pace of the attack by staying deep.

Hole Player

  • Positions Activated: SS/AMF/RMF/LMF/CMF
  • Key Attributes: Low Pass, Ball Control, Stamina
  • Player Examples: Griezmann, Bruno Fernandes

Overview

Hole Players operate in the hole of the defending team during an attack. In simple words, these types of attacking players always move forward when there is space during an attacking transition. Their runs are important, as they are able to find space efficiently, and can be played with a through ball.

Hole Player

There are many amazing Hole Players in the game, with Cruyff being the best of them. Apart from the mentioned attributes, Finishing would be a huge plus for Hole Players to deliver the killer blow.

Formation Discussion

AMF/SS roles are the best position for Hole Players. They will be able to penetrate into space often, so with an attacking overload in formations like 4-3-1-2, 4-2-1-3, 3-4-1-2, etc, they’ll be making an instant impact.

Box-to-Box

  • Positions Activated: RMF/LMF/CMF/DMF
  • Key Attributes: Low Pass, Stamina
  • Player Examples: Jude Bellingham, Declan Rice

Overview

A Box-to-Box midfielder is a definition of a midfielder for having the highest work rates. With their wide movement range, they offer support in both offensive and defensive transitions. That alone makes them a must-have in your respective squads.

Box-to-Box

Given a Box-to-Box midfielder’s primary duty is to support tirelessly for the full 90, Stamina is the most important aspect. Overall stats should be balanced, and high Defensive Awareness and Offensive Attributes are major pluses, so don’t miss out on these traits.

Formation Discussion

With higher work rates, use Box-to-Box CMFs to utilize the best out of them. However, they’ll be effective in wider midfielder roles as well, basically making them act like a wingback with their movements. Pair them with a central defensive midfielder to maintain a solid defensive line.

The Destroyer

  • Positions Activated: CMF/DMF/CB
  • Key Attributes: Defensive Engagement, Aggression, Physical Contact
  • Player Examples: Ruben Dias, Declan Rice

Overview

The word itself gives you the definition of this play style. Reckless is a strong word but these players play the physical battle card to overcome their opposition and keep them at bay. They usually don’t follow the defensive line, instead, push forward if there’s a chance to tackle or intercept.

The Destroyer

The Destroyer is usually a midfield role to fulfill, but most of the defenders have this playstyle, which is also okay. Vieira is a popular legend player with this player. Do note too much aggressive pressing with Destroyers isn’t necessary as they are designed to be destructive enough.

Formation Discussion

Play them in a central DMF role or at CB. Do not use multiple Destroyers in DMF and CB as it’ll create a loss of shape in your formation. 4-3-1-2, 4-3-3, and 5-2-1-2 are the best formations for this type.

Orchestrator

  • Positions Activated: CMF/DMF
  • Key Attributes: Low Pass, Lofted Pass, Tight Possession
  • Player Examples: Frenkie De Jong, Joshua Kimmich

Overview

A midfielder role who drops deep to collect the ball to move forward and initiate attacks. He acts like a bridge between the attackers and defenders, which is necessary to deal with intense press from the opponent.

Orchestrator

These player types do not make forward runs, but instead, drop, pass, roam, and look for loose balls or conservative interceptions/tackling. They are not the aggressive kind of midfielders with intense work rates but would work wonders if utilized effectively.

Formation Discussion

They work in any formation, but a Double Pivot role is recommended, which you get in 4-2-1-3, 3-2-2-3, and 4-3-1-2, formations. Use Orchestrator CMF along with a Physical DMF to overcome their shortcomings.

Anchor Man

  • Positions Activated: DMF
  • Key Attributes: Low Pass, Defensive Awareness, Tackling
  • Player Examples: Rodri, Sergio Busquests

Overview

A deep sitting midfielder role, not exactly physical, but provides defensive cover by involving himself in tactical challenges or smart interceptions. They are very central players, without many movements out wide from their natural position.

Anchor Man

They are important when it comes to defending against counterattacks while the other midfielders are not back in position. He will fill that space left uncovered, which is vital for maintaining a defensive structure.

Formation Discussion

Play him in a central role, can be worked in a Double Pivot role too. A progressive midfielder in front of him should be a natural choice of selection.

Cross Specialist

  • Positions Activated: RWF/LWF/RMF/LMF
  • Key Attributes: Low Pass, Lofted Pass, Curl
  • Player Examples: Trent Alexander-Arnold, Filip Kostic

Overview

Usually, a midfielder role to fill with some forwards, the Cross Specialist is a type of player who hugs the touchline, waiting for a chance to cross the ball into the box. They stay out wide, and unlike other players playing in the flank, they do not cut in to receive a pass or attempt on target themselves.

Cross Specialist

They do not participate in attacks very much, so often utilize them for crossing. Players having good defensive skills also provide good cover on the flanks even while equipped with a more offensive role.

Formation Discussion

Do not use them in the wings, instead in the wide midfielder roles in formations like 3-4-3, 4-1-3-2, etc.

Everything explained is pretty basic, although you will get to see the differences of each playstyle when you take on the pitch to play. Midfielders showcase versatility and strategic positioning, that allows for a wide range of tactical approaches, making it an enjoyable challenge to test various players and discover the unique strengths each brings to the team.
